A chimney damper is a device installed at the top of a chimney for the purpose of sealing the flue shut when the fireplace is not in use. In most cases, they are used as replacements for dampers installed just above the firebox. Lyemance & Lock top-sealing dampers are as much as 90% more efficient than throat dampers due to the fact that they provide a silicone rubber gasket seal rather than metal to metal.
For homes in Long Island, Suffolk, Nassau, New York City and Westchester, we highly recommend that the damper is working efficiently. You should have a chimney cleaning and inspection done annually to insure that gases do not enter your home.
